Here are five of my favorite elopement locations in Michigan:
Elopements are some of the most intimate and intentional wedding celebrations. Gorgeous elopements happen all over the world, but you don’t have to travel far to have the most beautiful and meaningful elopement ever. Here are five of my favorite elopement locations right here in Michigan. Let this be a guide to educate and inspire you to dream up your elopement in the Great Lakes State in one of the best locations to elope in Michigan.
1. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is one of my favorite places in “the Mitten” portion of Michigan. Standing up on the dunes, you’ll be looking out over Lake Michigan’s insane coastline that does not look like it belongs in the Midwest. The sparkling blue water, soft sand dunes, and wispy dune grass make for the most romantic setting for the best day of your life. My favorite hike is Empire Bluff Trail, but there are tons of trails and hikes for you to explore. There are also tons of gorgeous AirBnBs that would be perfect get ready in. You’ll want to be sure to stop by StormCloud, my favorite brewery in Frankfort. Are you sold? 2. Presque Isle State Park
The Blackrocks are part of Presque Isle State Park located in Marquette, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula. These ancient rock formations on the coast of Lake Superior are one of the best places to cliff jump into the lake. There are tons of trails that you can hike or bike through as you explore the park. The gorgeous rocks provide a moody backdrop as the dark rock meets the crystal clear water below, making it one of my all-time favorite elopement locations. While you’re in the area be sure to check our Muninsing Waterfall and stop at one (or more than one) of the many breweries in Marquette. It’s a beautiful location with stunning views of Lake Superior making it one of the best locations to elope in Michigan.
3. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is one of the best places to elope in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The lakeshore spans over 42 miles and it made up of stunning multicolored sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, and waterfalls lining Lake Superior. This area has some beautiful hiking that can add a sense of adventure to your day. There are so many gorgeous locations on this lakeshore to have your elopement. You can camp overnight and elope during sunrise. Or, you can plan your elopement during early October and have the gorgeous fall colors contrasting with the crystal blue water. What about coasting in a kayak or canoe and exploring the lakeshore from the water? The options are endless.
4. Isle Royale National Park
Isle Royale National Park is a beautiful remote location to get married that will add a wilderness/woodsy feel to your day. This is one of the least visited national parks as it’s only accessible by boat or plane. The island has so many gorgeous locations to elope. Some are more woodsy, and others with stunning rocky overlooks of Lake Superior. When you elope on Isle Royale there are several options for you to plan your overnight stay. You can backpack, camp, tie up your boat, or stay in one of the lodges available. Isle Royale is open from April 16 to October 31 and may just be the place you’ve been looking for for your elopement.
5. Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park
Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is the largest state park in Michigan. The Porcupine Mountains are a large mountain bluff that looks over the UP with treetop views that are especially GORG in the fall. Along with the forest, the state park also includes roaring waterfalls, miles of rivers and streams, 90+ miles of trails to hike, and over 20 miles of Lake Superior shoreline. You will certainly be able to find a beautiful and private location for your elopement here. One last perk if you want to keep things simple, you don’t need to worry about pulling any permits to do your elopement here.
